Polite Society

Polite Society was founded in 2020 by Surmai Jain,  a former graphic designer who returned to her hometown to begin again. During the stillness of the pandemic, she taught herself pattern-making and set up a small production unit in the back of a mass manufacturer in Jaipur.

After releasing the first collection, we moved to Mumbai and built our own production space - designed to work ethically, source locally, and create with care. 

The idea behind Polite Society had been quietly taking shape for years. Surmai grew up across cultures in India and Armenia, and noticed how society’s expectations often dim individuality. Through the brand, she wanted to make space for people to feel like the best, most honest version of themselves.

At its core, the brand believes in thoughtful design, subtle details, and a commitment to longevity, creating wardrobe investments that go beyond seasons.
